The Best Tools for Keeping Ministry Lifelines Strong

By Worship Strategies

Worship team leaders: Relationships are your LIFELINE in ministry, and practicing humility and self-control are among the best tools in your strategy for building strong relationships.

It’s easy to to get bogged down under the weight of responsibility in our role as a team leader. Scheduling, rehearsals, tech/production/set-up, overseeing music, cataloguing set lists… the list goes on… and on… and on. This weight takes a toll on our emotional and spiritual health, and strong, God-centered relationships are part of the key in how we persevere.

Aside from our #1 priority in worship (glorifying God and enjoying Him), we are there to celebrate His goodness with EACH OTHER. If we neglect the relationships between us and our team members, spiritual leaders, and the congregation, then we risk the following:

- Burnout
- Wounding others
- Disrupting the mission of the church

Unfortunately, I’ve seen this play out personally, and suffice it to say that it took YEARS to heal—mostly due to my poor emotional/spiritual health. If I could go back and redo those times, I would improve:

- My courage to own up to my shortcomings (humility)
- My communication, which was often clouded by “big” feelings (self-control)

When we practice Biblical humility and self-control, we’re set up for the best chances in resolving conflict, finding solutions for problems, and strengthening our current relationships. Through this process, you improve morale, camaraderie, and focus for your team and church, paving the road to greater kingdom work.
